Finishes
Which finish goes where
Flat
Ceilings and walls that rarely get touched. Hides flaws.
Satin
Living rooms and bedrooms. Wipes clean with a damp cloth.
Semi-gloss
Doors, baseboards and trim. Stands up to knocks and stains.
Bathrooms and kitchens
Paint made for moisture and steam.
Frequently asked questions
Do I have to move the furniture or leave the house?
No. We move furniture to the middle of the room and cover it, along with the floors. You can stay home; we ask only that children and pets stay out of the room while we paint.
How many coats, and what finish?
Two coats on almost everything, with primer first where the wall has stains, repairs or a very different old color. The finish depends on the room: flat for ceilings, satin for walls and semi-gloss for doors and trim. It's written in the quote.
Can you help me choose colors?
Yes. On the visit Minerva brings a fan of swatches. We suggest painting a sample on the wall and looking at it by day and by night before you decide; El Paso's light changes a color a lot.
Is there low-odor paint? What about children and pets at home?
Ask us for the product data sheet: the manufacturer says there what it contains and how long it takes to dry. Keep children and pets out of the room while we paint and it dries, and ventilate well.
What does prep include, and what costs extra?
It includes covering, washing or cleaning, filling small holes and cracks, sanding and taping. Extra: work that needs another trade, like repairing loose stucco on a large wall or replacing rotten wood. The quote lists it separately.
