How long does the job take?
A medium room usually takes 1 to 2 working days and a whole house 5 to 8, depending on size and prep. The dates are in your written quote; we don't promise a date over the phone without seeing the house.
What does the written quote include?
The surfaces and areas, repairs, the number of coats, products and finishes, colors, cleanup, schedule, payment terms and the written warranty. Each room has its own line.
What isn't in the quote?
Repairs found later, like rotten wood or moisture behind a wall, and colors added midway through the job. If something changes, we tell you in writing before we go on.
Do I have to move the furniture or leave the house?
No. We move furniture to the middle of the room and cover it, along with the floors. You can stay home; we ask only that children and pets stay out of the room while we paint.
My house was built before 1978. Does that change anything?
Yes. Homes built before 1978 may have lead in old paint. The EPA's renovation, repair and painting (RRP) rule applies to paid work that disturbs that paint, and the firm must be EPA certified to do it. Tell us the year when you write. If the home is covered, we put up plastic containment, never dry-sand or burn paint, clean with a HEPA vacuum and hand you the EPA's pamphlet before work starts. Our firm number is at the bottom of the page.
How many coats, and what finish?
Two coats on almost everything, with primer first where the wall has stains, repairs or a very different old color. The finish depends on the room: flat for ceilings, satin for walls and semi-gloss for doors and trim. It's written in the quote.
Who buys the paint, and what brand do you use?
We buy it, and we use good-quality paint. If you want the exact product, ask for the product data sheet and we send it before we start.
What if it rains or gets too hot?
Outside we paint all day from October to April; in summer, only in the mornings, before the wall heats up. If a storm hits in the rainy season, we move the day and let you know.
What does prep include, and what costs extra?
It includes covering, washing or cleaning, filling small holes and cracks, sanding and taping. Extra: work that needs another trade, like repairing loose stucco on a large wall or replacing rotten wood. The quote lists it separately.
How do you protect floors, plants and furniture?
We cover floors with drop cloths and paper, furniture with plastic and frames with tape. Outside we mask windows and cover plants with cloth, not plastic, so the sun doesn't scorch them.
How do I pay?
The payment terms are in the written quote: the deposit, if there is one, and the payment at the final walk-through. We go over it on the visit, with no fine print.
What does the warranty cover?
It covers our painting work, such as paint that lifts because of poor prep. The terms, limits and exclusions are in your written warranty, which comes with the quote.
Can you help me choose colors?
Yes. On the visit Minerva brings a fan of swatches. We suggest painting a sample on the wall and looking at it by day and by night before you decide; El Paso's light changes a color a lot.
Do I need a permit or HOA approval?
Painting a house rarely needs a city permit. Some neighborhoods with an association do ask to approve colors. We give you swatches and the color list to send in, and we wait for approval before we paint.
Do you speak Spanish and English?
Everyone on the crew speaks Spanish. Maricruz answers the phone and WhatsApp in Spanish, and Minerva handles English too. The quote comes in whichever language you prefer.
Is there low-odor paint? What about children and pets at home?
Ask us for the product data sheet: the manufacturer says there what it contains and how long it takes to dry. Keep children and pets out of the room while we paint and it dries, and ventilate well.
